Deadshot - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Deadshot. We discussed how music has inspired them at young ages, how they formed the band, musical influences, writing and recording their EP ‘Not a Shot’, collaborating on CDs with 51st State Records, upcoming plans, and more. Check it out below.
Can you tell me more about how you initially became interested in music and how you started writing songs?
Our band consists of five members, George, Wes, Kian, Jonah, and Evan. Our drummer, Wes, has been in bands since he was 7, influenced by his dad who was also in a band back in the 80s. George our singer got into music when he was 12, listening to metal like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and other 80s bands. George and Wes met and started to jam when they were 14, playing classics like Whiplash, and Phantom of the Opera, but then started to write originals that were closer to hardcore. From there, we went through members and found the perfect 5 and started writing a ton.
How has your scene (past and present) influenced and inspired you?
Wes filled in for No Redeeming Social Value in 2022 which changed how we wrote music after we started jamming. We are inspired by them, and bands like Turnstile, Pain of Truth, and Everybody Gets Hurt. Everyone in the scene has been nice and supporting us which we are thankful for!
You recently released your EP ‘Not a Shot’. What do you hope listeners take away when listening to the EP? What did you take away from the process of creating it?
We want people to know that we love hardcore and us just being kids makes it better. We have made so many new friends and we love the hardcore scene so we hope we can inspire future generations.
Can you tell us more about the writing and recording process for the EP?
Recording was a lot of fun! The band had an amazing experience at Cove City Sounds Studios with John Arbuckle. Our writing process is usually having someone bring a riff they thought of at home and thinking of ways to incorporate them with the others!
You released CDs with 51st State Records. How important is it to the band to have a physical release and an actual product of your work?
Physical media means a lot to us, it’s almost like a trophy of our hard work and other people can pick one up now at 51ststaterecords.com! And it means a lot working with Joey!
You have some shows coming up. How are you preparing for that and what can fans expect from your live show?
We have weekly rehearsals to prepare for shows, and people can expect a ton of dancing! It means a lot when people at our shows are throwing down.
What’s next for 2025?
We’re planning on playing a ton more shows, and dropping some new music, possibly a second EP!
Thanks for answering the questions. Is there anything else you want to add?
Thank you to everyone who is supporting us and we are grateful to be in a great music scene!
