Say It Anyway - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Say It Anyway. We discussed lineup changes, the evolution of their sound, upcoming releases including the song they’re most excited for fans to hear, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
No problem at all! Thank you for reaching out and giving us the opportunity to chat with you.
You released your last single with Kris, “Better Place”, in January. Did you know at the time it would be the last single with him?
When we recorded "Better Place" back in August, we had no idea it would be the last single with Kris. It wasn't until mid-November when Kris mentioned that he would no longer be continuing with the band. Looking back, we weren't entirely surprised, as Kris had a lot on his plate and it became increasingly challenging for him to commit to the band. But hey, life happens, and we're grateful for the good times we had together.
At the end of January you announced a new vocalist. What can you tell me about that so far?
It's been incredibly positive so far. Meg, our new vocalist, is not only a talented songwriter but also brings a contagious positivity to the band. We all feel a new body of excitement around being in a band and writing new songs. The writing process has taken on a whole new dynamic, with Meg adding her own unique style and perspective to our music. It's been fun, interesting, challenging, and ultimately rewarding. We're excited about the new direction she's bringing to the table.
Replacing a vocalist can be difficult. What were you looking for and how will it impact your overall sound moving forward?
We don't view it as simply "replacing" Kris, but rather embarking on a new chapter with Meg. Both Kris and Meg have their own distinct personalities, styles, and sounds, and they deserve the respect and recognition as talented individuals in their own right. We were looking for someone who shared our wavelength, possessed incredible talent, and, most importantly, was a good person to collaborate with. And we found all of that in Meg.
As for our overall sound, it's inevitable that it will evolve and change with Meg's addition. We believe in constantly pushing ourselves to grow, progress, and explore new territories. However, we're not completely reinventing ourselves. We're still the same four individuals at the core, but with a fresh dynamic. We hope that our fans will embrace this new chapter and enjoy the evolution of our sound.
Can we expect new music from this new line-up anytime soon?
Absolutely! We've already started working on new material, and we have some exciting demos in the works. However, we want to take our time to ensure that we get it right. The creative process can be a bit unpredictable, and we want to make sure that we're delivering the best possible songs that we can. However, the exact timeline for release is still uncertain. We want to make sure that we give each song the attention it deserves and ensure that it's the best representation of who we are as a band.
Is there a song that you’re working on that you’re most excited for people to hear? Why?
Definitely! There's a song called "Vampires" that we're all incredibly excited about. When Meg first shared an acoustic demo of it with us, we were instantly captivated. We all heard the same magic in the song - the infectious melodies, the dynamic arrangements, and the powerful progressions. It just felt right, like it embodied the direction we're heading in as a band. So, the five of us worked together to give it our own twist and transform it into an absolute banger. "Vampires" is just a taste of what's to come.
You also announced some shows coming up. What can fans expect from those shows in terms of your live show and songs you’ll be playing?
It'll be a mix of both familiar and new songs. We'll be performing most of the songs we've released so far, but we'll also be throwing in one or two new ones to give everyone a taste of what's to come. It's important for us to feel confident in our new material before sharing it with the world, so we'll be carefully selecting the right moment to introduce these new songs into our live performances.
Is there any chance that you’ll release any of your music on vinyl or cassette anytime soon?
We would absolutely love to. While there are no concrete plans at the moment, we are definitely open to the idea of releasing our music on vinyl or cassette.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you for giving us this opportunity to share our thoughts. We'd like to take this moment to remind everyone to be kind to one another. Life can be challenging, and we never know what battles others may be facing. A little kindness and understanding can go a long way in making someone's day brighter.
