Post Heaven - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Post Heaven. We discussed the writing and recording process for new EP ‘Watch The Framework As It Falls’, musical influences, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
Thanks for having us.
You recently released your debut EP ‘Watch The Framework As It Falls’. Have you been pleased with the response it’s received so far? How does it feel to have it out now?
It’s been great. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but the response has been more than we could’ve imagined.
Can you tell me more about writing and recording the EP?
Yaz and I started writing and demoing the songs together around March/April of this year, recording ourselves as we went. We probably had everything finished by late June when we felt we were ready to put a full band together. Everything came together very quickly and only a couple months later it was out.
I really like “The Vanishing Act”. At what point in the writing process was that song written?
Pretty much at the same time as the others. It’s hard to tell because there was a lot of jumping back and forth between songs when writing and recording. The only thing that pre-dated everything was the chorus chord progression and lead for A Drowned Sky, which I've had laying around since probably early last year.
I’ve seen you compared to bands like Fleshwater and ASkySoBlack. How do you feel about those comparisons?
It’s cool, there’s a real strong scene happening right now. I was a bit curious to see how we would be received, as the Melbourne scene hasn’t had very many bands with our sort of sound for some time, but recently bands like Crawling and Resenter have been making waves which has made us feel a lot more at home.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
For Post Heaven specifically, bands like Glassjaw, Hum, Deftones and Far - but my biggest inspirations personally are probably The Cure, Brian Wilson, Nine Inch Nails and Faith No More.
Kingpin Records released a cassette for the EP. Is there any chance that we’ll see a vinyl pressing at some point?
Hopefully some day. We’ll have new music next year so it would be cool to possibly do a compilation LP at some point.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks so much to everyone who has given us their time over the last few months, it means the world.
