Montclair - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview Montclair. We discussed the writing and recording process for new song “An Opposing Argument”, what to expect from their upcoming album, touring with Stateside, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
Thank you!
You recently released your new song “An Opposing Argument”. Can you tell me about writing and recording the song?
We had a demo for the song for a while and got together and fleshed it out. We wanted to get something out before our run out West so recorded it ourselves diy, Nick recorded, mixed and mastered it.
I really like the production on it. I think it perfectly compliments the song. What were some of your sonic influences for it and the overall sound?
I just really wanted it to sound like something that was made twenty years ago or so. I love the way that older emo records aren’t polished or over produced, they just sound like the song as it’s played live but recorded well. We recorded everything in a small practice space which was far from perfect acoustically but I think it worked out and I really love how perfectly imperfect everything ended up sounding.
Ephyra said you have a new album coming out soon. What can we expect from the album in terms of your songwriting and overall sound? Have you been trying anything new with your writing?
The sound is kind of a mix between our Two Song Promo and our new single. We feel we are finding our own sound and very excited about it.
Do you have a tentative timeframe for when we might hear the new album or some singles?
Everything’s in the pre-production phase, but we’ll be posting about it as it gets closer!
You’re about to head out on tour with Stateside. How did that tour get set up?
Stateside came out East earlier this year and we did some dates with them and we love that band and those guys, and on that run we were talking about doing a run out West together so they set it up and we’re super grateful to be a part of it.
What can fans expect from your live show on the tour? Will you be playing any new songs?
It’s a good mix of older songs and some new ones we haven’t put out yet.
The Stateside EP is one of my favorite releases so far this year. What’s your favorite song from their EP and why?
All On Red, I love that catchy chorus and the lyrics. We love seeing it live.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you! Check out our new single and come say hi while we’re out West with Stateside!
