Ritual - Sound In The Signals Interview

First, thanks for the interview.
For sure! Thank you for hitting us up, that means a lot.
Can you tell me how you started the band for those who may be unfamiliar with it? How did you initially become interested in music?
We’ve all been playing together in bands for years. Or our bands would play shows together a lot so that’s how we became friends. It all happened so naturally we didn’t have to think about it really, it just happened.
You recently announced you signed with Sunday Drive Records. How did it work out for you to sign with the label?
Sunday Drive Records has been in our realm for a while just from being in bands around the area and having friends on the label. When the band first started I hit up Jonathan to create a logo for us so he’s been in connection with us since the beginning. Similar to how we started naturally, the signing with SDR happened organically and we couldn’t be more excited to work with them.
You also released your new single “Wave Goodbye”. Can you tell me about writing and recording that song?
“Wave Goodbye” was one of the very first songs we started working on. Nate had recorded a demo himself and brought it to rehearsal and we workshopped it from there. The song was written and being played at shows before we recorded it, so if you go back and watch older sets you can hear the changes we implemented.
What’s your favorite part about writing songs? What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of writing?
My favorite part about writing songs is how we can all feed off each others energy or sort of hear what’s going on in someone else’s head. One thing we strive for is high quality but also high energy. Being a fun band to watch live is so important. We’ve all played in hardcore band or hardcore adjacent bands for years so we feed off that energy between the crowd and band. As far as the most challenging aspect of writing songs personally is lyrics. I’ve never really been good with words, getting my point across, or expressing how I’m feeling.
You’re teasing new music for later this year. What can you tell me about it so far? Do you know if it will be more singles or an EP or album?
We have five songs coming out on SDR, Wave Goodbye will be one of them. The five songs are what we’ve been playing since the beginning and even well before our official start as a band. To me each song offers something different but still keeping that same energy and vibe we strive for. These five songs will be released as an EP, we have about five or six more songs that are separate from this release. Those songs we feel would fit better on an album.
Do you have a song that you’re currently working on, that hasn’t been released, that you’re most excited for people to hear? If so, what can you tell us so far?
We’ve been playing a new song in our set we’ve had on deck for a while. It’ll be on the next release for sure. We love playing it, the energy it brings is incredible to experience. It’s a little different vibe from our “older” material but it still has that ritual feel to it.
Sunday Drive is really great with their physical releases. Is there any chance that we’ll see your music on cassette or vinyl at some point?
Sunday Drive offered to release our five songs on cassette, we’re so incredibly excited and appreciative of the offer. SDR is truly leading the charge on releasing physicals for bands, I promise I’m not just saying that. Everything that’s cool and new is coming out right now on SDR as a physical release.
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
