NORMY - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the opportunity to interview George Lucarelli of NORMY. We discussed the decision to keep the band going, the band’s upcoming EP, artwork and vinyl variants, and more. Check it out below.

First, thanks for the interview.

Thank you for having me!

The last time we spoke you talked about quitting the band, but we’ve recently spoke and you’ve changed your mind. What changed between then and now?

I’m an idiot. I honestly just felt super overwhelmed with everything going on at that point in my life. It’s easy to just throw in the towel when things get hard and the feeling passed very soon after and I just felt pretty cringe for letting it get to that point. The band is for fun and will be something I always want to just do for fun with my friends.

Obviously fans were upset when they saw the band might be ending. Did fan reaction have any impact on you deciding to keep moving forward with the project?

Yea, a few people reached out to me and just had some nice things to say and I’ve met a handful of people who’ve wanted to talk about the band. It made me realize it can be something very fulfilling for me if I allow it to be. Making music and connecting with other people because of it seems like a nice thing. I love playing shows and really can’t wait to play these new songs live.

You also recently announced the pre-order for your new EP ‘WHAT THE FUCK PLANET ARE THESE GUYS FROM?’. I saw that you’re releasing a glow-in-the-dark vinyl variant. Whose idea was that?

That was my idea. Once we had that title down I thought it would look cool like a glowing flying saucer type vibe. I’m really excited to see how those turn out.

You released “Idiot” as the second single from the EP. What made you want to pick that song as the second single?

I loved Eric’s vocal melodies on that one. It has a feel good kind of vibe to it and I find the chorus stuck in my head a lot. I think it’s a good blend of what we’re goin’ for as a band. There’s another song on the ep that’s similar and it was a close call but idiot seems to be doin’ well.

The EP artwork is cool. Who designed it and came up with the concept for it?

That was me again. I just search for cool stock images and collage stuff together until it looks useable and then tweak ideas and send them back and forth. I think it’s a funny title and cover. Very simple and to the point.

I had the chance to listen to the full EP and it’s fantastic. I think it flows really well. How much time did you put into the flow and arrangement of the EP?

I really pay attention to that stuff. I like knowing that you noticed it too. I hope people listen to it from start to finish I think that’s the way it’s intended.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?

Our new EP comes out September 8th and it is really good!!!!!!!!
