408 - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the opportunity to interview 408. We discussed the writing process for new song “College Kids”, lyrical inspiration, more details about their upcoming EP ‘Generational’, and more. Check it out below.
First, thanks for the interview.
Thank you so much for having us!
Your new single “College Kids” comes out May 2nd. Can you tell me about writing the song?
Yes. Writing "College Kids" was a special experience. Nick Roque came to the band with this awesome lead and breakbeat and Mark started coming up with a verse right away. The whole band got together with their good friend Nick Bailey and wrote the hook. The whole song really dives into Mark's experience in college at UCF with an old friends group that slowly dissipates. It was a very emotional track for him and the band.
What were some of the lyrical inspirations for the song?
The band was actually very inspired by +44 and Kid Cudi on this song.
One thing that’s really interesting about your band is how you all contribute vocals and the way you do it seamlessly. How do you decide who will sing which parts of the song?
Thank you very much! Every song is different and different voices sound good on different songs. We try to get everyone involved as much as possible where it fits the best.
The song is the second single from your upcoming EP ‘Generational’. What can you tell us about the EP so far?
Correct, the EP is completely finished. There will be 1 more song coming out in June and the entire EP will drop shortly after that. We have 5 songs total on the EP.
The artwork for ‘Generational’ is pretty cool. Who came up with the concept for it and why did you decide to use that image?
The whole band and our producer Andrew Karpovck were in the studio recording the songs and that idea just came about organically. Having a spaceman in a convenience store really fit the message of the EP.
You released your debut album ‘Out Of It’ last year. Have you been pleased with the response it’s received so far? What are your thoughts looking back on it now?
Yes, we had a great time putting that album together and we are very grateful for the songs that people stuck to. The best is yet to come!
Mark Hoppus commented about your song that’s titled after him. What was it like hearing from him?
Amazing, he is the greatest of all time and deserves to have multiple songs about him. We all were super impressed.
You released a CD for the album and you’ve talked about a potential vinyl release. Will we see the album, or perhaps the new EP, on vinyl or cassette?
Looking at the EP in Vinyl as we speak!
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you so much for your time! We are very excited for this single and EP to drop!
