Slowdive - "Star Roving" (Song Review)

Slowdive is one of those seminal 90s shoegaze/dream pop bands. Their 1993 album Souvlaki is a classic and a staple for fans of the genre. "Star Roving" is the band's first offering in 22 years. The song rarely misses a beat. It feels classic while still feeling fresh and new. It captures what I really like about Slowdive. It's kind of dreamy sounding, the vocals are slightly buried in the mix, and the production gives the song a nice sunny, washed feel. It feels like a somber song from the vocal production, but there is some nice aggression in the drumming and the guitar that really balances the song nicely. The group is currently working on the follow-up to their 1995 album Pygmalion and if this song is any indication they are headed towards creating something special. I'm hoping they can pull off what fellow 90s shoegaze outfit My Bloody Valentine did with their 2013 comeback album MBV. All that aside this song is a welcomed addition to their catalog and honestly as a fan of the band you couldn't ask for much more. This is great. I highly recommend it. My anticipation for the album after hearing this song is pretty darn high! Listen below.
