OG Maco - "No Love" (Song Review)
OG Maco has been fairly silent this year after kicking off January with a good mixtape/album Lord Of Rage. Maco survived a car crash, but lost an eye. It appears to have been a year of both positives and negatives for the artist. With all that being said Maco took to Apple Music to release his new single "No Love" a somewhat dark brooding auto-tuned crooner. He also announced his new project #BLVKPHILCOLLINS. The song is produced, written, and co-engineered by Maco. It's an interesting track for sure and fairly ambitious. The song reminds me some of Kanye West more recent ambitious type tracks. The ones where the production is really heavy handed and the vocals are heavily autotuned. At times that can create mixed results. I think this also has somewhat of an EDM feel with some of the noises layered over this beat. The beat does a lot of the heavy lifting on the song. To me, it's the big focal point of the song. It's a very interesting beat for the most part and I come out enjoying it. It has a cool vibe. The auto-tuned, mostly crooned vocals by Maco work really well on the track. They fit the vibe and feel of the song. I like the guitar work around the 2:30 minute mark. It adds a lot to the song. It might sound a little jumbled especially around the 4:20 minute mark. A ton of noises are going on over the beat and Maco begins rapping with a slightly distorted filter over his vocals. It's a lot going on at once, so it might distract from his rapping a little. Overall this is a good song, that works more than it doesn't, and it definitely sets the stage for what could be an interesting upcoming project.
