Tory Lanez - 'I Told You' (Quick Review)
After an abundance of mixtapes Tory Lanez has finally released his debut album I Told You. The album, as a whole, has an extremely nice flow. The beats are mostly smooth and they glide along with ease. Lanez comes across as an interesting mix between something like Drake, Future, and The Weeknd. He never feels like a clone. He definitely has his own flavor, but for comparisons sake if you like those artists then you're really going to enjoy this. "Cold Hard Love" is an exceptional song from the album. The beat has some really nice attack to it. It's slightly more upbeat and gives the album a nice uplift of energy at the midway point. While a track like "Guns And Roses" showcases the vibe that really reminds me of The Weeknd. The song is a favorite of mine. The hypnotic production and vocal performance is just a perfect song to vibe out to. On "Friends With Benefits" Lanez has a woozy flow similar to Future and in some parts of the song he transitions into a Drake-ish flow that also has some Kendrick Lamar aspects to the delivery. It's a pretty interesting song overall. It showcases Lanez ability to blend a lot of styles into one song in a neat way. The last track "Luv" ends the album with a sort of tropical house vibe. It's smooth, sunny, and closes the album out really nicely. Transitioning from mixtape artist to having an official album can be tough for some. Tory Lanez accomplishes the goal and delivers a solid release that captures a variety of moods, vibes, and styles. I'm enjoying this and I would recommend it.
