Sick Transit - 'Act Your Age' (Quick Review)

This album finds Sick Transit serving up a slice of fast, melodic, and fun punk rock that shares a familiar sound with early mid-2000s pop/punk like MxPx and early The Ataris, as well as early Blink-182 think Chesire Cat era. For a newer band comparison I think Spraynard would be fair. The album is a blaze of fun. The acoustic opener "Act Your Age" is a great opener and it's a big standout. I thought it was a neat move for the band to open with their acoustic song as pop/punk fans have gotten used to the acoustic closer. After that the album just speeds by with great harmonies and nice pop/punk guitars. "Adult Swim" is a standout. I really like the vocals on the song and it's a really catchy song that got stuck in my head. "Punk Rock S.O.B." is a little rougher around the edges. It's almost hardcore punk as it's so aggressive musically. It has a lot more of a hardcore punk vocal approach, maybe slightly more melodic. The song "Why Don't Dogs Eat Fruit" has a guitar riff that really reminds me of vintage MxPx in a really cool way. Overall this is a pretty cool album full of mostly fast punk rock with heavy pop edges. You don't hear many pop/punk bands do this style these days quite as well as Sick Transit does on this release. It's a solid album that fans of the genre should really enjoy.

  1. I just stumbled upon this review and decided to check them out after reading this and holy crap they're so good! Hope we get to see more out of this band in the later years to come!
They definitely give me hope that REAL Pop Punk won't die and that we'll always have the good vibes early 2000s Pop Punk gave us :)
