Joyce Manor - "Fake I.D." (Song Review)
Joyce Manor has a knack for writing quick, determined, and catchy songs that have a nice, abrasive edge. Their new single "Fake I.D." from their upcoming album, Cody, continues the trend but also continues their sonic evolution. The band's last album Never Hungover Again showed that the band could take that abrasive punk sound with that rough around the edges style found on previous releases and add production slightly more polished with some great success. I think "Fake I.D." continues that trend, but just slightly more. The song has a really vibrant guitar part that has this catchy uplifting feeling. Barry Johnson's vocals sound great. He belts out his lyrics with the utmost confidence in this song and his vocal ability and style are part of why Joyce Manor has much of their appeal. He delivers really nicely on this song. His vocals have an abrasive edge to them, but they really are catchy and methodically used to induce this catchy nature of the song. The chorus is so catchy and great. This song, like most Joyce Manor songs, is short, sweet, and to the point. It's a pretty stellar single coming from an album that I'm really anticipating. I think it sets the stage for their new album, which I think might turn out being one of the better albums this year. The hype level is at an all time high for this album, with me, and the single just intensifies it! You must check out this song! Find "Fake I.D." and the album on iTunes.
