Splitsville - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Splitsville. We talked about their upcoming tour with Middle Distance, new music, and their EP Blackouts. Check out the full interview after the jump!

First off, thanks for the interview.
Not at all. Happy to have a chat

You just announced your UK Tour with Middle Distance. How did that tour come together and what can fans expect from the shows?
We really wanted to tour this Summer as most of us would be enjoying our free time from uni. We were also genuine fans of Middle Distance and had talked before about playing shows together, we thought the best way would be to spend 10 whole days together on the road!

What will your set list be like and is there any song in particular you are excited about playing for your fans?
Our set list will be mainly made up of new material. We've been working really hard on writing and recording our new EP and so are really excited for people to hear how we've developed as a band. One particular song I'm looking forward to playing is currently unnamed but has the working title of 'Jeremy' - possibly an ode to Corbyn. The ending is really fun to play live and I love stretching my vocals to their max capacity in it. But in general we're playing a lot of places we've never been to before so it's just exciting to play everything and meet new people to be honest!

You released Blackouts last year. Have you been pleased with the response to it so far?
For a debut EP from a relatively unknown band that we recorded ourselves the response was really encouraging. It's been great to play those songs, especially when given the chance to play somewhere new because the promoter has enjoyed what they've heard enough to put us on.

What have been a couple of your favorite moments about not only recording the EP but releasing it?
My favourite part about the 'Blackouts' EP is that we made a new friend through Crust Baby Records when they decided to release us on tape. They're a Bristol based DIY label run by a lovely person called Ben, who has put us on one of his shows since. Even better is that we've pretty much sold out 2 pressings of them which is really humbling. I really recommend that people go check out Crust Baby and the other bands released on there.

Can fans expect any new music this year? A follow-up EP or possibly a full length?
They can! We've finished recording our 2nd EP, which is what I'm really excited about! I feel that we've come a long way from 'Blackouts'; with the addition of a second guitarist, a more concentrated and group based writing process and the experience of playing with some incredible and inspirational bands. I hope that people see a progression in our sound and that we've worked hard for it. You can expect a new song maybe around your time!

I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Just maybe that in the last year we've all had a brilliant time playing our music live to loads of new faces and more importantly made some really great friends in the process. I love the DIY punk scene in the UK at the moment - how supportive and creative it is, and as a band we're proud to be a part of it. That's about everything, except that we're itching to get on the road with Middle Distance. Thanks a lot!
