Light Years - “Let You Down” Acoustic (Song Review)
When I listened to the acoustic version of "Let You Down" I thought to myself Light Years just hasn't been receiving the level of hype or respect they probably deserve and I'm hoping their continued push with Lite Years, their upcoming acoustic EP, helps push them forward. Then I thought what better way to support the band and help them out then to actually review the music more and help push it forward. So here's my sale for Light Years and a review for this acoustic version of "Let You Down".
This band has a knack for writing some really solid pop/punk tunes and they've garnered a nice following, but they have yet to push up to the level that they should probably be at. With the first taste of this acoustic EP out, the acoustic version of "Let You Down", one thing I noticed is that the song might resonate with people more in this form. The opening guitar part sticks out a ton more than I think it did on the full band version. This new version also really puts the lyrical content up front and I think any fan of pop/punk could connect to these lyrics because they are very appealing to the audience.
The vibe of this acoustic song would be perfect for a mid-afternoon or late summer night playlist. Pop/punk in the more raw acoustic form has a way of resonating with people because it can put the focus on lyrics and showcase the pop appeal in a lot of ways that the electric version can't always manage to do. I like that this is fleshed out, as well. It's not just vocals and and an acoustic guitar. The song has the full band feel with some really nice sounding percussion. It sounds so good stripped down that I'm wondering if the whole EP could have this appeal and showcase the band in a different light to listeners. If you've never listened to this band or passed them over in favor of another from the genre then I would urge you to dive back in and give this song a solid listen. This version definitely brings out another side to the song and I'm really enjoying it!
