Ghostbusters: Ecto Minis (Toy Review)
With Ghostbusters hitting theaters this week we wanted to do something cool for the film and that is a toy review for Ghostbusters Ecto Minis. We haven't really ventured much into toy reviews for this site, but it is something we may do more of in the future. These small, about one inch, figures come in mystery bags meaning you can't see what you're getting. The idea is to purchase a bunch of bags hoping to nab your favorite characters while probably trying to avoid getting multiples of the same character. You have the chance to get all four Ghostbusters, a couple other human characters, and some of the ghosts including the classic Slimer ghost. They are all meant to glow in the dark, as well. Some stores are currently discounting these so keep an eye out for them if you are interested!
We opened three blind bags and got:
Slimer
Ghost Trap (Rowan inside)
Splitting Ghost
Here is what else you can get:
Abby Yates
Cockroach Ghost
Erin Gilbert
Jillian Holtzmann
Kevin
Mannequin Ghost
Patty Tolan
Rat Ghost
Rowan Human
The packaging for these is pretty standard for the mystery bags (these are available for other titles including the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and more). They are just tiny, little bags with a detailed picture showing which characters you could get. To avoid getting doubles you can kind of feel around for details in the soft packaging. There is also a big graphic advertising the glow in the dark aspect of these minis.
Ghost Trap (Rowan Inside) is probably the nicer of the three. It has the best details and unlike the other two minis actually glows in the dark nicely. Slimer and Splitting Ghost have a very dim glow to them after holding them under the light while Ghost Trap (Rowan Inside) is very bright and neat looking as soon as he is held under the light. Slimer has movable arms and looks good. The classic character pretty much works well in any toy form. I think Slimer is probably my favorite of the three. Splitting Ghost is probably my least favorite of the three. There are no movable pieces. It has a cool look, but it leaves a little to be desired with no movable pieces and because the glow in the dark feature works the least for this character. All three minis stand very nicely. An issue I've seen with a lot of other minis is that they fall over very easily. That wasn't the case with these. If you grab them you should easily be able to set them up without them constantly falling over.
These probably aren't the world's greatest purchase, but the mystery aspect of the mystery bag is fun. The chance to collect them all is a neat thing for collectors with these minis. I think these are decent looking. I can't judge the detail on any of the actual Ghostbusters or other human characters because I didn't get any of them. The ghosts look cool and for the right price they are fun little items to place on shelves or on top of speakers. I'd recommend picking them up if you are a GB fan looking to add some new items to your collection without shelling out a ton of money. Have fun and enjoy the new Ghostbusters movie!
