Butch Walker serves up a slice of Americana, Bruce Springsteen style on his new single "East Coast Girl" and it's quite fun. The delivery and approach of the song make it a great listen even if it is an obvious nod to the Boss. Walker is an incredibly talented songwriter with a uniqueness in his own right and he's toyed around with various styles over the course of his career. He does some of that in this song slightly or it seems that way to me, at least. I can definitely hear what sounds like to me some elements that seem to have some The Replacements influence in them. Whether it's upbeat, infectious songs like this song or more introspective songs like some of the ones we heard on Afraid Of Ghosts he continues to prove that he has a knack for writing strong songs. This isn't the most original thing I've ever heard from Walker, but it is a fun single that warrants repeated listens. It's a pretty infectious song and the chorus gets stuck in my head. I really like how the verse vocals were recorded in the song. I'm hoping that his new album will have more songs of this style and nature. Until then I'll have no trouble jamming "East Coast Girl" on the regular.
