Hit the Lights - Just to Get Through to You (EP Review)

Hit The Lights' return-to-form album, Summer Bones, showed that the band could both mature and return to the scene with more than a handful of classic sounding cuts that showcased what fans and listeners enjoyed about the band. Just to Get Through to You is the next step in a reminder for the band that they not only have some great music but that they continue to write some really good new music. The short, six track EP is a mostly acoustic jaunt through some HTL classics while including a new song. Acoustic versions of "Drop The Girl" and "Summer Bones" are big highlights. To me "Summer Bones" is easily in the top 5 best songs this band has ever written and the acoustic version is an instant standout. The lyrics and vocal delivery pack some extra punch on this version. New song "Lighthouse" fits in nicely and is mostly acoustic until midway through when the band hits you with electric guitars, pounding drums, and a nice amount of energy to close out the EP. It ends the EP on a really high note. If Summer Bones served as a comeback, then I think this EP is just a nice continued reminder that this band is back. The acoustic versions all work really well and I think this is a really good spring/summer pop/punk EP.
