Cassino - “Alabama Song” (Single Review)
If you're like me then you think Cassino, and to a lesser extent Northstar, is pretty underrated. Nick Torres fronted both and has churned out quality song after quality song for quite a long while. "Alabama Song" is the first taste of Cassino we've had since 2011 and it really is a pretty fantastic song. Torres' vocals continues to improve. His voice suits the music found on the song really nicely and he gives a really strong performance. The song has western tinges and hints of Pinkerton-era, Weezer-esque guitar moments here and there. The song's upbeat intro moves into the more somber first verse in a way that just instantly catches me and has me excited to hear the new EP, Bottlenecker (which is out May 27, 2016!). I just really enjoy the mood the song captures. It's upbeat, somber, and has a quirky edge that I really enjoy. It's the perfect summer afternoon song. I wasn't sure what to expect when I hit play on this song since it's been a while since we've gotten any new material but honestly this might be one of the best songs Cassino has crafted yet. It's a great single to what I hope will be a great EP!
