Postcards - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Postcards. Check out the full interview after the jump!

Your new album My Departure is out in June. What can fans expect from the album and did you try anything different this time around?
Aidan Grapengeter (vocals ): I know every band in the entire world says this with every record they put out, but this truly is the most mature record we have put together. We try to do something different with every record/song we put out as well yes.

I like the artwork for the album quite a bit. Who designed it and came up with concept? Why did you pick that image to represent the album?
Our friend Jacob Belcher designed it. He is playing guitar for us currently as well. We have been using a deer and antlers on all of our stuff since day one. We took our first promos with a light up Christmas deer and it just stuck.
My Departure is out June 10, 2016

You just released your new single "Finding Common Ground". Can you tell me a little about the writing process of the song and why you picked it as your first single?
Our writing process is a little different for each song but I believe we all wrote this one musically together as a band, I then went on to write lyrics soon after. We chose it as our first single because it's a straight forward, hard hitting song. It is not the best song on the record in our opinion, there is a lot more to hear. But very solid, catchy, and well put together. In our opinion of course. Haha.

I like the lyrics of the song quite a bit. What inspired the lyrics ?
The lyrics of this song, and the majority of the record, are about the struggles of a long distance relationship and my feelings post break-up. The girl I was dating for 2 years traveled for work and wasn't home much at all. Finding Common Ground specifically was about the last day of our relationship, and some of the conversation that we had on that day.

What are a couple other songs you are excited for people to hear on the new album and why?
Personally I'm excited for "Your Absence", "Runner/Chaser", and "New York".

You released a three song acoustic EP earlier this year. How did you decide what songs would end up on the acoustic EP?
The two first songs on the record are acoustic versons of some of our more popular songs. I had a new acoustic song written that I thought would fit for an acoustic ep for Postcards.

What inspired you to record the acoustic EP and release it before the album? Have you been pleased with the reaction it has gotten so far?
We realized we didn't put ANYTHING out in 2015, the whole time we were working on the full length. We wanted something to put out in between our 2014 release and our full length. Something to get people to remember "oh yeah, those dudes are still alive!"  Have we been pleased with the reaction? No not really, I think that is what keeps me going though. I always want more people to hear these songs, more people to check out our band, etc.

I guess that wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Thank you guys for the interview! We cant wait to put this record out.
