Ev Zepplin (Chuck Inglish & Blended Babies) - Chemdream Feat. Aston Matthews (Single Review)
The first single from Chuck Inglish and Blended Babies new project, Ev Zepplin, showcases how the upcoming album is heading towards interesting territory. The So-Cal flavored sounding beat leans slightly towards a rock feel. The beat would have been perfectly at home on U-N-I's, A Love Supreme. It's mostly a smooth beat with some attack with a few drum hits here and there. Inglish's vocals sound more inspired than they have on some of his previous solo material in a while, although I can't deny that Everybody's Big Brother had more than a few great songs on it. He comes up with some nice sounding rhymes and he flows over the beat nicely. Blended Babies tend to bring out the best in rappers. When they paired with Asher Roth for the vast majority of Pabst & Jazz they helped create what is probably his best project to date. I think the pairing with Inglish may produce some of his best post-The Cool Kids material, if the single is any indication. The song captures a great vibe and it's a good spring song. Aston Matthews delivers a guest verse that sounds pretty classic hip-hop. It has a vintage Snoop Dogg meets The Game sounding flow, at times. It adds a little energy to the end of the song and ends it strongly. Overall this is a really promising first single from the project. It sounds refreshing and I'm looking forward to hearing the album.
