Migos - YRN 2 (Quick Review)

In an attempt to offer more thoughts on and review more singles, mixtapes, and albums we're going to do some "quick reviews". This means you'll get some thoughts on more things, but it probably will not be as in depth as our full fledged reviews will be. Here is a quick review of the new Migos mixtape, YRN 2.

Migos has put out a ton of trap inspired mixtapes. All the mixtape work culminated in the Migos YRN (Young Rich Nation) album last year. That album really cleaned up and refined the groups sound. It sounded more commercially friendly, but it maintained the groups edginess, and it definitely streamlined the sound and made it more accessible all around. Their new mixtape, YRN 2, is a sequel to their previously released 2013 mixtape, YRN. I know; that's a lot of YRN releases to differentiate from but the title is a running theme in their discography, at this point. This new mixtape definitely follows suit more with the sound of their debut album rather than some of their early mixtapes. I'm glad to hear the group continue down the path as a big fan of their album and the overall sound they captured with it. The songs are of similar quality to those on the album so if you liked the YRN album then you should easily be able to enjoy YRN 2. There isn't a lot of growth, but the quality is at the same level. The group continues to become better rappers as their career progresses and I think that's been one big improvement as they continue to release material. "Fall Back" produced by Zaytoven is a definite standout. I think it captures a lot of the vibe of the mixtape pretty well. I think this is another solid addition to their discography that is worth checking out!
