Blue Streak Blvd - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Blue Streak Blvd. Check out the full interview after the jump.

For anyone who isn't familiar with your band how did you get together and form the band? What got you interested in music?
We were all friends and had all played in bands together in high school, but it was never anything serious. At the time we formed Blue Streak, we all had the same vision of playing this music together, and we all grew up with a musical background so we knew this was what we wanted to do from the start.

You guys just released your new EP These Days. What went into the recording process of the EP and what were a few memorable moments you had while recording it?
We had about two weeks to record all five songs, which gave us more than enough time to get everything exactly the way we wanted it. The engineer we worked with, Mike Kalajian, created a very stress-free and low pressure environment to work in. We honestly feel like we screwed around the whole time and in the process, created something that we're proud of. But, one of the most memorable moments was definitely getting to the studio in one piece on the first day. New York had its biggest snow storm of the year that day, and we crammed our gear into Ian's little honda accord to get there. It was a miracle that we made it there. We also played way too much Super Smash Bros... way too much.

This is your second EP. How do you think you guys as a band have grown in between those releases? Is there anything you changed up in the songwriting or recording when you started recording this new EP?
As opposed to the last EP, we took a lot more time to put in the effort for the new one. About 2 months after forming, we recorded Wasted Time. Right after releasing that, we got right back into writing, and all the songs on the new EP are songs we've written over the past year. During the winter leading up to the studio session, we spent a ton of time fine tuning the songs and recording pre production demos to prepare for the final versions. Collectively i think it's our best work as a band and as individuals so far.

The EP starts really strong with the song "On Your Own". I really like the intro and it's one of my favorite vocal performances on the EP. Can you tell me a little about the writing process of that song in particular?
We started writing "On Your Own" right after the release of our first EP, so it's the oldest song on Kids These Days. The process of writing that song was actually pretty simple. Brandon came up with the riff at a practice one day, and we all kind of just vibed off of each other to write a type of song that we've never written before. The same can generally be said about every song on this EP.

"Set In Stone" is the single from the EP. What made you guys decide to pick it for a single?
We decided to pick this track for a single because unlike songs like The Heights and Voices, which show a certain side of our songwriting, Set In Stone is just a good representation of us as a band, and it's just fun, energetic, pop punk song.

I like the cover image for the EP. Who did the artwork for it and where was the picture taken at? Why do you feel like it was the right fit for the EP?
We got the artwork done by Leanna White Creative who came up with the picture. The whole album cover idea was decided by what colors and emotions everyone in the band feels when we think of these five songs together. It came out awesome and Leanna does amazing work.

I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Thanks for having us! If you haven't yet, you can check out the EP on Youtube, iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify and many other online stores.
