Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign - Post Up (Single Review)
Wiz Khalifa & Ty Dolla $ign recently released their first single from their upcoming collaborative EP Talk About It In The Morning. I felt the need to do a review for this single because it honestly surprised me quite a bit. The single artwork for "Post-up" is really cool. It is eye-catching and instantly reminds me of some of the classic Snoop Dogg artwork from the early-mid nineties. The track, which is produced by Ty Dolla $ign, is probably the best song I've heard Wiz Khalifa perform on in years. I remember back in Khalifa's mixtape days, especially his standout project Kush & Orange Juice, when he had a vibe that I enjoyed quite a bit. Fast forward a few years ahead and a few albums later most of Khalifa's material has not been my favorite. However, this track just works and could be laying the groundwork for what could potentially be one of the better hip-hop/rap/R&B EPs of the year. I am a big Ty Dolla $ign fan and his performance and production on the song is super solid. Khalifa comes through sounding a little more like his classic self. The beat has a bass heavy, smooth paced vibe that could easily fit great on a Drake album. The vocals work great on the beat. My one beef is using the word "retarded" in a song. It's 2015; we've all heard over and over the word is pretty offensive to a lot of people. I could have done without it. That misstep aside this song is extremely solid and has me looking forward to the EP that is suppose to drop sometime this month (March 2015).
