Action Bronson - Mr. Wonderful (Album Review)

I've been a fan of Action Bronson for years. I still remember when Dr. Lecter came out. I instantly liked it, but I also agreed with some of the Ghostface Killah comparisons in his early career. As good as he was I wondered if those comparisons would hinder him as he continued on in his career. Time proved that wouldn't be the case. Project after project has shown Bronson progress and evolve. His persona and his abilities have also continued to improve. He has became a big force and personality in hip hop over the last four to five years. Mr. Wonderful, to me, is Bronson's big statement album. I was really excited to go into this one.

Mr. Wonderful really is quite the album. It is full of swagger, bravado, confidence, and insanely written lyrics. Bronson's vocal delivery has such attack and intensity. He really seems like he's giving a 110% performance. Chance The Rapper's guest verse on "Baby Blue" is hilarious and is also really performed. The production is great. Most of the beats fit Bronson so well. Overall this is a really well executed album. There are some spots toward the back end of the album that aren't quite as standout. I wasn't the biggest fan of "The Passage" because it just felt a little like an odd inclusion on the album. The album closer "Easy Rider" redeems that moment and offers a super solid ending. I really enjoyed the beat and vocal performance on the song. Honestly any issues would only be a minor complaint when thinking about how fun and good this album is.

This is a cool album. It's basically in a nut shell everything I wanted from it. Like I said there are a couple moments that I didn't enjoy, but they are so few and far between that it really didn't hurt the listening experience or my enjoyment of the album. This one lives up to the hype!
