Talking Music: Any Album/Any Era/Any Genre (November 2014)

It's time again for the monthly weekend feature where I pick albums from any era or genre and briefly discuss why I think they are awesome. Check out the albums I picked to talk about this month after the jump!

Saves The Day - In Reverie
Released In 2003
I can still remember when this album was released. It was a really polarizing album for STD fans.  I instantly liked it and always enjoyed this album. It is a slightly different vibe than most of the Saves The Day material on past or present releases. I think that makes it a unique album in their discography. It's still in my top 4 favorite STD albums.

The Lyndsay Diaries - Remember The Memories
Released In 2001
The Lyndsay Diaries was part of the solo acoustic singer/songwriter crop that sprung up after Dashboard Confessional started getting a huge buzz. Scott Windsor's vocals may have not been the strongest or maybe they were more of an acquired taste. The lyrics are heart on your sleeve emo pumped up to ten, which may turn some people away from the album. I've always liked this album and connected with the sheer honesty of the music. I also really like how this album sounds overall. It's an album that can sometimes get lost in the shuffle of neat music coming out around this time. Check it out if you've never heard of it!

Weezer - Weezer (Green Album)
Released In 2001
This isn't my favorite Weezer album, but I've heard from others for years that Weezer's debut album and Pinkerton are it and nothing else is good. I also feel like everyone acts like nobody liked the "green album" when it was released. Everyone I knew or interacted with really dug it and so did I. I think this was a good comeback album for the band. This album has some of my favorite Weezer songs on it. I'm more inclined to believe Weezer's worst music was released years after this album. Give this album a chance if you've written off. No, it's not as great as Pinkerton. However, there are still a lot of great Weezer songs on this album.

Kid N Play - 2 Hype
Released In 1988
Kid 'N Play may often times be remembered for some of the funny early-mid 90s movies they made together and 2 Hype is really the start of well...the hype for the duo. This album is a very light take on some of those earlier hip hop sounds and styles. It's a fun album and it has a really cool style overall.
It's not Eric B. & Rakim, but that's okay.

Eric B. & Rakim - Paid In Full
Released In 1987
Since I mentioned Eric B. & Rakim above in the 2 Hype discussion I thought why not talk about them and their landmark album Paid In Full for a moment as well. This album is so important to rap/hip-hop. Rakim, to me and a lot of other people, was doing stuff on this album that would become the norm for future rappers. Rakim's style is still really influential to today’s current crop of younger rappers. It's never too late to check it out if you haven't already.
