Analog Apostles - Honor The Code (EP Review)

I really like Analog Apostles previous EP The Other Side of the Sea Digital so I was definitely interested in checking out their new EP Honor The Code. What I found with Honor The Code while I was listening to it is a much improved band. The band builds on the roots they started with their first EP and throughout this EP they fine tune their sound. Everything on the EP sounds improved from their previous EP. The instrumentation is stronger, the production is stronger, and the vocal performance is stronger.

The guitar work on this EP is done really nicely and to me the guitar work along with the vocals are the backbone of the EP. The big standout track after repeated listens is "The Drowning Resolution". It has this nice building intro guitar riff that leads into the vocals. The song has a great driving vibe. I enjoy the pacing. It really reminds me of that late 90s early 2000s alternative emo/punk vibe and it's a fun listen. There are also tracks like "Slam Dance" that keep with the vibe but up the intensity a little. One cool thing about "Slam Dance" is how it transitions from this more upbeat song into the smooth melodic style the band does so well.

The songs production and mixing feels right at home with the way this was done. The production helps give the songs a good texture. These feel like independent rock songs and with that I want production that doesn't gloss them up too much. I don't want to lose that natural feel and sound. I think the production and mixing do a good job of making sure those elements are kept and the songs don't lose their integrity.

This band definitely could find a home with the emo-revival in full swing this year. This definitely has those emotional rock leanings, but I wouldn't pigeon hole it as just that. It feels like it could fit in really well with the light alternative/rock crowd as well. This is another successful EP for Analog Apostles. I think if you enjoyed their first one you'll definitely enjoy this one as well. This is a stronger batch of songs and is executed slightly better than the band's first EP (which I though was pretty good). Check this one out. I think you'll like it.
