Above The Underground - Sonder (Album Review)

Above The Underground is another one of the great pop/punk influenced bands currently coming out of the UK. The UK seems to be generating a lot of great bands like Neck Deep, Roam, and Save Your Breath. I think Above The Underground has created an album that will no doubt cause listeners to take notice with their new album Sonder.

The band lists themselves as a pop/punk act on their Facebook. I went into it expecting that and got that and more. Some of the songs have a really nice alternative leaning. It is similar to the sound of A Loss For Words album No Sanctuary, for comparison sake. "I Was Never Lost" is a definite standout track when I listen to the album. Lyrically it's really good. Musically it has a great pace. I really like the way the vocals were done as well. Towards the end of the song the band even finds room to mix in some more hardcore style vocals. I really like the way they were implemented and mixed on the song.

Overall Sonder is a great catchy album. It has some really nice layering in the songs. It's an album that instantly caught me on first listen. I know this is the kind of album I'll end up listening to a lot. I've had this album for nearly a month and it's been on rotation a lot already.
