Just Like Giants - Sound In The Signals Interview
Your EP Take It Back came out towards the end of last year. Can you tell me a little about the recording process of the EP?
We started writing songs as soon as we formed in summer 2013, and the tracks on the EP are the first three songs we wrote as a band. Once we were happy with them, we went to The Ranch Production House in Southampton to get them recorded. That was it really, we just wanted to get some music out there and see what people thought of it.
"Enemy" is the first track on the EP and it really starts the EP off strong. Why did you decide to pick that particular song as the first track?
It’s a big song, with lots of different sections with some good energy and we felt it would give people a good idea of what we are about. Plus (we think) it’s pretty catchy as well.
To anyone who hasn't head your band what track would you recommend them check out and why?
Probably ‘Enemy’ for that same reasons as before, but also a song about a relationship breakdown and a lot of people can relate to that.
The pop/punk scene in the U.K. has been really blossoming over the last three or four years. What do you think of the scene currently?
It is a great scene to be involved in right now, we have played with some really cool bands and met some really cool people that are all just working really hard to show off their music. We are all in this together after all.
What's one band on the rise in the U.K. scene you think people should check out?
One band… that’s tough because there are so many cool bands, so here is a few:
Standing Like Statues, You Had Me At Hello and our good friends in Chasing Cadence
What do you guys have planned for the rest of 2014?
The rest of 2014 is going to be nice and busy for us. We are releasing our second EP in the late Spring, along with a new music video. Playing shows around the UK in the Summer, and a few dates in mainland Europe. Then before the year is out, we are going back in the studio for some more recording (new EP or even a full album). Then bring on 2015…
I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have any closing comments you'd like to make?
Just Like Giants are:
Sam Curtis – Vocals and Guitar
Jamie Bunce – Guitar and Backing Vocals
James Axtell – Bass and Backing Vocals
