Lung Season - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the chance to interview Lung Season. Check out the full interview after the jump.
You guys are a fairly new band. For those who are not familiar can you tell us a little bit about how you got together and formed Lung Season?
We have all been friends for years and toured together in other bands we have been in. After our previous band split, Scotty, Ricki and I started jamming some songs and when Allan came along to practice one we became Lung Season.
Your new release, 2014, is currently streaming on bandcamp and will be available in March. Can you tell me a little bit about the writing and recording of it?
The writing of this record was a quick process over the space of about 2 months. All members of the band can play at least one of the other instruments so writing is a fairly smooth process. The record was recorded with our longtime friend Nick Scholey who is a fantastic producer and a pleasure to work with. The whole record was tracked in just over a day in December 2013.
It's coming out on Giant MKT Records in March. Why did you decide to go with them for the 7 inch release and why did you feel it was important to release it on vinyl?
I had sent the tracks over to our good friend Jeffrey Adam Wright who plays in The American Scene/Unconditional Arms for him to have a listen and he passed them on to Anthony at Giant. As soon as Anthony made contact with us we knew we wanted to work with them. Giant MKT is a fantastic group of inspired, motivated people and a joy to be working with. Most of the band are long time record collectors and see it as the format that people hold on to the longest. CDs and Mp3 files get lost over time but records are something you tend to keep indefinitely. We like the idea of putting something out there that will be around in years to come.
The artwork for 2014 instantly caught my attention when I saw it on bandcamp. Who came up with the artwork for it and why did you guys pick it?
The artwork is a collaboration of work by friends helping us out which has been something that has
absolutely blown us away working on this record. The Photo itself is by our amazing friend Tom Mitchell who is a photographer/videographer/record producer and all round great guy. The photo is of My childhood friend Matt Evans from the town I grew up in. The whole thing was tied together by our friend Steven Hill who runs Struggletown records in Glasgow, UK. He is a gentleman and has always supported bands we have been in and runs a very cool label.
For anyone now familiar with your band what is the one song you think they should check out and why?
"Table 13" is our favorite track off of the record and also the slowest. It is just a fairly simple, fun song to play and came out great on the record.
I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Thank you for taking interest in our band. Please take the time to check out our brothers in Grader, Unconditional Arms, Bonehouse, The Barents Sea and Algernon Doll. One Love, Lung Season.
