Hold My Own - Sound In The Signals Interview
I recently had the chance to interview Hold My Own. Check out the full interview after the jump.
You guys are fixing to release your new single "Murder". Can you tell me a little about the song writing process for the single and why you chose it as a single?
Charlie~ Hey! No problem, thanks for getting in touch.
Murder was written about three years ago on my mums laptop about an ex girlfriend. It seemed a bit dark at the time as me and Joe (Bassist) were in a different band which was Punk-rock and didn't really fit our genre. A few years on I found the lyrics, and it just so happened we were in a band capable of pulling them off, ha!
The song is written to show the struggle that I, and many others who get burnt by a serious relationship, go through when battling the good and bad sides of yourself. There's a side of you that wants to crack on and be the same guy as before, and then there's the side that just wants to 'Burn the bitch alive' haha!
I had a chance to check out the video for "Murder" and it's a really neat video. What was the video shoot like and who came up with the concept?
Joe~It was wet, cold and horrible and I can't remember who came up with the idea.
Ryan~ It was a guy called Dan who filmed it after we pitched him some ideas, and he was really pro about the whole thing. It was also filmed in our managers nans garage ha!
I also checked out the single artwork for "Murder" and the look fits very well with style and look of the video. Who came up with the single artwork?
Ryan~ That would be Charlie (Vocals). We wanted something simple but you could still feel what the song was about. It’s quite a dark song and the artwork shows this.
The single is off your upcoming mini-album Still Breathing In. What can fans expect from the EP in terms of sound and song writing. Did you try anything new on it?
Ryan~ It's got a nice mixture of songs with deep meanings that will make you think, but also we've thrown in a few dance along, pop-punk songs. It's showing our transition as a band and how we want to be as we grow on.
Charlie~ The mini-album is also called 'Still Believing In...' aha! There was a mix up in the press, as cool as 'Still Breathing In' sounds, we are splitting the album in two for a darker and lighter side.
It will be 'Still Believing In... Heroes and Villains'.
For anyone who isn't familiar with the idea of a "mini-album" could you explain it to our readers? What do you think the difference between a mini-album and an EP is?
Adam~ Well to be honest with you, I don't know if there is a difference haha! They're basically the same.
Where can people purchase your new single at and where can they check out some of your other music?
Ryan~ Our first mini-album and Murder can be purchased from iTunes and listened too on Spotify, if people want to check them out before they go ahead and buy, then you can see them all on our Facebook page as well!
I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions do you have anything else you would like to add?
Charlie~ No problem, and thanks for spending the time listening to our work and writing out the questions for us! Just to add that 'Still Believing In...' will be available around April/May and all our shows dates, merch and tickets can be found on our Facebook page and our website:
