Dreamcatcher - Wonderlust (EP Review)

Isn't it great to hear Bryan Czap's songwriting again? The lead guitarist of The Dangerous Summer, who left after Warpaint, had a huge impact on the band's sound. When I sit down and listen to Dreamcatcher’s new EP I can't help but instantly think it's great to hear his uncanny ability to write good songs again.

Dreamcatcher is definitely its own band, but due to Czap's songwriting there are moments when this sounds like a female fronted version of The Dangerous Summer. That's to be expected a little. Czaps involvement will probably be the way a lot of people initially hear about this band. That aside this is an awesome EP. Chelsea Tyler's vocals fit the mood of the songs perfectly. The way the drums were recorded fit the EP perfectly as well. The guitar tones sound so good.

The songs have a soft alternative rock feel that have those spacey guitar riffs that Czap is well known for. They transition so well. The vocals and guitar really drive the album and create a nice brooding spacey feel. "June" is a top pick from the EP and showcases the band's ability really well. The rhythm section sounds awesome. It has really good guitar parts. It's one of the strongest vocal performances by Chelsea Tyler on the EP. I also really like the track "False Flags". It's one of the heavier, faster songs on the EP and I think it's a great ending.

This is a really strong debut from the band. I'm excited to hear what they do next. If you're going into this as a fan of Czap's previous band I think you should really enjoy this. This is top notch stuff. This might be one of the better female fronted projects I've heard in a long while. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen.
