Transit - Futures And Sutures (EP REVIEW)
Transit has had kind of an interesting year. They started the year with a ton of hype and excitement due to the fact they would be releasing a new album, Young New England, in 2013. Early in the spring it was released and was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics. Now at the end of the year the band has released their new EP, Futures And Sutures, featuring acoustic versions of previously released material (including acoustic recordings of tracks from Young New England).
The EP is a nice reminder of what people really enjoy about Transit and I think it's great the band recorded and released it in the same year as Young New England. Every track on this EP is very well executed and shows the band pretty much doing what they need to do., which is reminding fans of why they enjoy their music, continuing to build their buzz, and putting in a really solid release at the end of the year. I kind of feel like this EP is a statement from the band. To me it’s saying they aren't finished and are reminding people of why they enjoyed the band so much in the first place. For those who didn't enjoy Young New England at all it might be worth giving the EP a solid listen as the tracks from that album featured on this EP might be more impressive than their counterpart versions found on Young New England.
The downside is there isn't much you haven't heard on the EP because it’s previously released material. This is fine because it's meant to be that way, but fans still waiting to see what the band will do after Young New England will still have to wait.
This EP is a great release from a really good band. It's worth checking out. If you're a Transit fan it is a must have. If you didn't enjoy Young New England but have enjoyed everything else from this band this release should really make you happy. It's mostly songs you have come to enjoy from the band if you are a fan. I liked it though and think it's a pretty good listen.
