Sonsett - Sound In The Signals Interview

I recently had the chance to interview Sonsett. Their newest EP is out now for free! Check out the interview below.

To anyone who hasn’t heard of your band can you tell our readers a little about your band and what you guys are trying to accomplish with your music?

We're a 5 piece alternative/emo band from Nashville, TN. really all We're trying to do is play music We love, tour as much as possible, and connect with people through music.

The original project started as a solo venture. What caused this to develop into a full fledged band? How has the songwriting process changed from solo project to a band?

Well, when I started this band I was playing drums in another band and I really wanted to play music like Dashboard Confessional haha so I started writing and demoing and got a few of my friends who were also playing in other bands together to do a side project and then We started writing together and eventually it turned into a full time thing.

You released your newest EP Days Wasted not too long ago. What was the recording process like for the EP and why did you guys decide to make it a free download on your bandcamp page?

We started thinking of studios we could go to and record an awesome sounding record and We came up with quite a few, but we sat down after practice one night and we all talked about how we would like to release this EP for free and we thought the best way to do it would be to record it Ourselves. So We started recording at My brothers studio in Our house, and after We finished it Our longtime friend Steve Winiarski hit Me up about mixing and mastering the record and I couldn't turn it down so We sent it off and couldn't be happier with it. The main reason We released it for free was because We wanted to get Our music out to as many people as We can. We're not here to make money off of Our fans!

You have a video out for the title track off the new EP. What was the video shoot like and who all did you work with to make the video happen?

The video shoot was so much fun, The drums were falling over on every turn, and A few times the cymbal fell and hit Our bass player Josh's head. Playing in a moving van is harder than it looks haha. We worked with Ben's brother Tim Yoder to make this video, He does this for a living and He came up to Nashville and shot it for Us!

You guys are and up and coming band trying to create buzz and really make your mark. What do you think the most difficult part of being a new band in 2013 is?

The most difficult part about being a new band these days is getting a buzz on the internet! Thats where most of your fan base comes from. Playing shows and sticking around to watch every band and making friends with all of them will really help You out more than You think!

To anyone who hasn’t heard Sonsett what is one song of yours you would recommend and why?

I would say “Days Wasted” cause that song I feel best represents us, its my favorite song to play live and it was the last song We wrote for this record.

I guess that about wraps it up. Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions. Do you have any closing comments you’d like to make?

Please go download Our record for free on bandcamp, and like us on Facebook, We like to do nothing more than hang out with people whether You like Our music or not. Come hang out a show and talk to us!
