Set Things Right - Talks Inspirational Albums With Sound In The Signals

We just did a new feature with Set Things Right where the band talk about some of their most inspirational albums. Check out the full feature after the jump.

Most inspirational album: James Falck

Underoath - Define the Great Line

For me, this album is the true example of how music should be written. It's so well thought out, and so creative. There's nothing really quite like it. It was a huge staple in the band's career, sounding nothing like their previous album but proving to be just as stellar, if not more. The emotion, aggression, and complexity but also simplicity of the riffs and singing are something that simply isn't found very often in heavy music nowadays. It's definitely one of the albums that made me want to start writing music and be in a touring band.

The Devil Wears Prada - With Roots Above and Branches Below

For me, the whole album is one long story and each song takes you to a different chapter. Every song is very unique and consists of very impressive riffs and vocals. The recording quality and production value are very impressive. They use a lot of different elements to create a lot of depth in their songs. Danger: Wildman is my most inspirational song because of the contrast created, the heavy riffs and the climax.

Most inspirational album: Tom Welslau

While She Sleeps – This is the Six

While She Sleeps have a numerous of great songs but on the album ‘This is the Six’ they made one extraordinary combination of great songs. They combine a lot of different elements which create a very solid album. The end result that While She Sleeps has come up with sound like a bad ass straight-ahead metal album. The song “Seven Hills” is my most favourite song because of the contrast and heaviness. The chorus is extremely catchy but not cliché.

Most inspirational album: Kristof Du Jardin

A Perfect Circle – Thirteenth Step

As a Tool admirer, I like other projects of lead singer James Maynard Keenan such as A Perfect Circle. Thirteenth Step is one of their best albums that has so much variety in it. the songs are not only sometimes musically heavy, but also often psychological heavy. They create a certain depth by using different instruments and effects. The Outsider is one of my favourite songs because of the lyrics and musical storyline in it. This album gave me a lot of inspiration for guitar riffs and the way a song can be built.

Blink 182 – Enema of the State
Blink 182 is one of the bands that brought me into rock music when I was really young, and it’s still one of my favourites. For me ‘Enema of the State’ is the best album they have made. It’s the album where they became world famous with, rightfully. With this album they changed the world of rock music and made more ‘heavy music’ popular in the mainstream world. The choruses on this album are always noticeable, catchy, and well diversified. This is how a chorus should be.
