5 Tips For Being In A Band By: Rich from Desolated
1.
My first tip to anyone starting or joining a band is crucial, it would be to have fun. That’s realistically the most important thing, try not to get dragged under by professionalism and trying to make a career out of it, just go play music you like and enjoy what you do. I think a lot of bands really need to realise that enjoying what you do is much more important than being the next big thing, if you enjoy what you do and do it well, you will get noticed and things will take off.
2.
Secondly the further you go in a band, the more criticism you will undertake, so be prepared. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, if anything it’s good because if people are slating you for whatever reason, they are still spreading your name. People love to disagree and so ultimately you can still get guys into your band!
3.
Thirdly learn to enjoy travelling and being away from home. I can't really say much about this, it took me a while to get used to it, but now I quite enjoy it and prefer being in random cities than at home bored.
4.
Another important point that I think is the biggest one for me, is go to a real studio when recording releases. I hate listening to metal records that are bad quality, you want to listen to something that sounds heavy and is enjoyable, like what you release.
5.
Lastly, you don't need a record label until it’s absolutely vital! The band needs to learn to handle the pressure of releasing records themselves, and the general ropes of being a band, you can get really far just by doing it yourself or getting smaller, indie labels to help you.
Desolated’s new album Disorder Of Mind will be out on July 22, 2013. You can pre-order it: HERE.
