Rachel Brooke - Late Night Lover (VINYL REVIEW)
I think every large or small music movement has to have certain things and certain types of artists to galvanize it. The underground country movement has been building a lot of steam since the release of Hank III’s Straight To Hell and Shooter Jennings Put The O Back In Country. I think you could easily say Rachel Brooke’s album Down In The Barnyard might be one of the better female fronted albums from this movement. Not to say it doesn’t have a lot of great female fronted bands or solo performers, but Brooke has what it takes to be at the forefront.
Late Night Lovers once again proves this. The vinyl 7” packaging is great. The image and design is interesting and the way the sleeve folds out into a lyric book is something I haven’t seen with a lot of vinyl sleeves. Also included is a Rachel Brooke postcard one you might need to get in touch with her as she ascends her way to the top of the genre.
The EP sounds great on vinyl but also included is a digital download card. The digital copy mp3’s are high quality. So for the price of the vinyl you also get the digital which is something I always like for an artist to do.
The songs all but one are written by Brooke and she continues to impress. Her songs have a nice mood and vibe and vocally you couldn’t ask for much more from her. She gives an impressive performance. What I most like about this and Barnyard is lyrically it is impressive. At the end of the day any listener can’t deny the talent and ability.
I’m interested to see if she can continue the trend this release and her last release have shown. I think with this release she proves that she sits at the forefront right now and is well in position to be the best female performer from this genre. This is a must have for country fans!
