For a while now but especially over the past month or so the internet has been buzzing with talk about Fashawn's debut album Boy Meets World produced entirely by Exile. Click above to read my thoughts and a small review of the album.

Fashawn has crafted a great debut album with Boy Meets World. The Nas comparisons have been flying all over the internet, but I don't want to do that or say much on it. This album doesn’t deserve to be compared to anything else but itself. Yes it’s that good.

As far as the lyrics and vocal work Fashawn delivers with precision and top notch delivery. Lyrically he tells the story of his life real talk and no faking it. From what I’ve been reading he’s had it rough, but in the end he’s found a way to channel it into a stellar debut album. Honesty in hip hop can sometimes be hard to find but when an artists is able to work that angle the way Fashawn does it creates a universal appeal to all different types of listeners.

Exile produced the entire project and it really proves to be a collaborative effort. I think Fashawn could have delivered a good debut without Exile, but Exile working on this whole project gave it a lot of heart and a strong backbone. His work on this is much different than Blu’s Below The Heavens but the appeal is there and he is easily proving why he is the man to go to if you want quality production/beats.

I don’t want to allot a precise score to this, but I would encourage anyone who’s a fan of music to pick it up and listen to the entire album at one time. It really is the only way to take in an album like this.

Standout tracks:

“Life As A Shorty”
“Samsonite Man”
“Why”
“Our Way”
